Ring Sizing Tips

For You: Thermal expansion is the tendency of things to expand as they get warmer and shrink with the cold. Funny as it sounds, the same thing happens to fingers. If it’s time to size a ring, first make sure your finger is at a nice and normal body temperature. That done, check to see if your knuckle is much larger than your finger’s base. If it is, take two separate measurements and choose a size in between. You want a ring to fit over your knuckle, but not be too loose (a loose ring is almost as sad as a lost ring)!

METHOD 1 - Measure Your Finger & Find Your Size

  • Step 1 - Find a piece of non stretchy string or paper about 6" long and 1/4" wide.
  • Step 2 - Wrap it around the base of your finger. It has to fit snug, but not too tight.
  • Step 3 - Mark the point on the string/ paper where it overlaps forming a complete circle.
  • Step 4 - Compare the length of the string/ paper to the images below. That is your ring size.

*If you are between sizes, order a larger size.

You may also print the downloadable sizer to use it as a measurement tool.

For Someone Else: Measuring rings for another person takes stealth. The easiest, most accurate way is to quietly take a ring he or she wears often and compare it to our Method 2 size chart.

METHOD 2 - Measure Your Ring & Find Your Size

Place a ring that fits you over the closest matching sized circle, make sure the inside of the ring lines up with the outside of the circle. If you are between sizes, order a larger size.

If the person doesn’t have a ring you can borrow for measurement, you may have to amp up the ninja factor. If you live with the person, you can try to use Method 1 on his or her ring finger during sleep, but that might not give you an accurate reading. To avoid spoiling the surprise, try asking friends or family members. If you can get a rough estimate, just buy more than one size and keep the one that fits best. We are happy to accept returns within 30 days and we know how to keep a secret!
